The relationship of resilience and social support with parenting stress among mothers of children with special needs
Background: Mothers of children with special needs may experience parenting stress because of ongoing caregiving demands. Resilience and social support may help them cope with these demands, although their associations with parenting stress may vary across settings.
Purpose: To examine the relationships of resilience and social support with parenting stress among mothers of children with special needs.
Method: This quantitative cross-sectional correlational study included 82 mothers of children with special needs recruited from SLB Negeri 1 Bantul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Data were collected using the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), Social Support Questionnaire–Short Form (SSQ-SF), and Parenting Stress Index–Short Form (PSI-SF). Descriptive statistics and bivariate analyses were conducted using SPSS version 26, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05.
Results: High resilience was reported by 42 participants (51.2%), and high social support by 42 (51.2%). Parenting stress was classified as high for 52 participants (63.4%), moderate for 15 (18.3%), and low for 15 (18.3%). The manuscript reports no statistically significant association between resilience and parenting stress (χ² = 4.712, p = 0.318). It also reports no significant association between social support and parenting stress; however, the test statistic and p-value are inconsistent across manuscript sections and require verification against the original statistical output.
Conclusion: In this sample, the reported analyses did not identify statistically significant associations between resilience or social support and parenting stress. The findings should be interpreted cautiously until the bivariate statistics and category frequencies have been checked against the original dataset.
